The Night Before

Patients (especially Diabetics) are encouraged to have regular meals prior to dental procedures to ensure blood sugar levels do not get too low. You can also take your regular prescription medications, unless otherwise stated. But make sure that our dentists are aware of any pre-existing conditions that you have and all medications that you’re taking.

What you can eat

After you’ve had oral surgery you’re probably not going to want to eat anything hard or crunchy for at least a week. For the first 48 hours try to eat only soft foods like soups and stews, which should be served warm but not overly hot. If you have been prescribed pain medication, alcohol should be strictly avoided. After a few days you can slowly start to return to your normal diet.

Healing Time And Recovery

Immediately after your surgery you may experience some discomfort and swelling. Swelling will usually go down within 48 hours but your discomfort may linger for a bit longer.
